Dion, Céline (1968 - ) Canada / Music star / VS

The Quebecois singer often comes to Crans-Montana in Switzerland. Céline Dion, youngest child in a family of 14 children, was born in 1968 in Charlemagne, near Montréal. Her parents owned a piano bar, and so she grew up immersed in music. By the age of 5, she had already revealed her passion for music and was performing in her parents' piano bar.

In 1980, she decided to devote herself fully to singing. That same year, she was discovered by manager René Angélil, who decided to finance her first albums. Her first record came out in 1981, La Voix du Bon Dieu (The voice of God), and she appeared on Québec's most popular talk show, making her an instant star in la Belle Province.

Céline Dion then won the gold medal at the Tokyo World Song Festival in 1982. With ever-growing international acclaim, she received a gold album for France in 1983. At the age of 19, she produced the album Incognito, which was a monumental success. In 1988, she represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest, which she won with the song Ne partez pas sans moi (Don't leave without me).

By 1991, Céline Dion had become an international diva and she recorded the internationally hailed album Unison. In 1996, she sold over 25 million copies of Falling into You and won a World Music Award. Her worldwide fame was heightened even further by the song My Heart Will Go On, from the soundtrack of the film Titanic.

Married to her manager René Angélil, Céline Dion is busy raising her son René Charles, who was born in January 2001. Although they now live in Florida, the couple still travels to Switzerland for long holidays in Crans-Montana, Valais, where Céline lived in 1988 during her preparation for the Eurovision Song Contest.
