What changes with the EU-Swiss bilateral agreements?
Home > Swiss Residency > Residence permits > FAQ > Bilateral agreements > What changes?

For citizens of a EU country, criterions to become a Swiss resident have been considerably relaxed starting June 2002. Once obtained, residence permits will give much more flexibility and grant more rights. For example, they will be valid for an initial period of 5 years instead of 1, there will be no more restrictions as to buying real estate. Furthermore, you will be able to have all your financially descendants and ascendants come and live with you in Switzerland, and your permit will be valid for all Switzerland, not just one canton.
