What are these bilateral agreements?
Home > Swiss Residency > Residence permits > FAQ > Bilateral agreements > Introduction

Switzerland is not a member of the EU but signed a treaty, called bilateral agreement (bilatérales, Bilateralen), with EU member states.

The treaty was signed, then ratified by each party state and finally came into action on June the 1st, 2002.

It has an immigration chapter that introduces very positive changes for citizens of EU countries who wish to relocate to Switzerland.
