Adventure sports Outventure, Hansmatt 5 in nearby Stans (041/611 14 41, www.outventure.ch), is the leading adventure operator in the region, with plenty to keep adrenalin junkies happy, including bungee jumping out of the Titlis cable-car (130m; Fr.149), flying fox (Fr.79), potholing (Fr.79), canyoning (from Fr.95), tandem paragliding, white-water rafting, mountaineering, abseiling and more. From May to October they offer a shuttle from Luzern to each location, many of which are in and around Engelberg .

Bike rental In the station (June–Sept daily 7am–7.45pm; Oct–May Mon–Sat 7am–7.45pm, Sun 9.30am–7pm).

Boat rental SNG, Alpenquai 11 (041/368 08 08) has pedal boats (Fr.21/hr), rowing boats (Fr.22/hr) and motor boats (Fr.44/hr) for rent, all requiring a deposit (Fr.20–100). After 7pm, prices rise by Fr.6/hr. Bucher at Luzernerhof (041/410 20 55) and Herzog at Nationalquai (041/410 43 33) are two competitors.

Books Bücher Brocky, Güterstrasse 1, has second-hand books in English.

Changing money In the station (May–Oct Mon–Fri 7.30am–8.30pm, Sat & Sun 7.30am–7.30pm; Nov–April Mon–Sat 7.30am–7pm, Sun 9am–6pm).

Email and InternetCafé Parterre (Mon–Sat 7am–12.30am, Sun 9am–12.30am; Fr.16/hr), and the Löwengraben (daily 7am–12.30am; Fr.15/hr) both offer access (see “Cafés and café-bars”). Wärchhof (see “Clubs and live music”) offers free Internet access (Tues & Wed 7pm–midnight).

Flights Scenic Air, at Widi 3 in Alpnachstad (041/671 08 71, www.scenicair.ch), offers sightseeing flights – a 45-minute overfly of the lake and the Titlis (Fr.175) or a one-hour tour of the Bernese Oberland (Fr.220), with the extra option of a glacier landing.

Lost property The city office is at Hirschengraben 17b (041/208 78 08).

Markets Every Tuesday and Saturday morning, large and colourful food markets spill over both banks of the Reuss and under the arcades, with a supplementary fish market every Friday. There’s a flea market every Saturday (May–Oct) on the south bank, and a monthly crafts market (April–Dec, first Sat of month) on Weinmarkt. In the modern part of town, Moosstrasse hosts a relaxed Saturday morning farmers’ market of cheeses, organic vegetables, home-made jams and more.

Medical facilities 24-hour emergency room at the Kantonsspital, Spitalstrasse (041/205 11 11).

Post Main office is across from the station (Hauptpost, CH-6000 Luzern 1).

Travel agents Discount flight agents SSR Reisen are at Grabenstrasse 8 (Mon–Fri 10am–6pm, Thurs until 8pm, Sat 10am–1pm; 041/410 86 56).

Women’s contacts Zefra, Vonmattstrasse 44 (041/240 71 40) is an alternative women’s centre, with contacts and information. Monday night at the Wärchhof (see “Bars, clubs and live music”) is women-only.
