You’ll find no bargains eating and drinking in St Moritz. The best place to look is Via dal Bagn down towards Bad – down here are a giant new Migros, the inexpensive Bellevue with self-service meals (closed Sun), and Boccalino at Via dal Bagn 6 (081/832 11 11), a lively, bustling place with a range of quality wood-fired pizzas for under Fr.15, as well as pasta staples. The Veltlinerkeller, Via dal Bagn 11 (081/833 40 09), is a perennial favourite; ignore the hunting trophies on the walls, and concentrate on the quality, lightly prepared food in front of you – excellent pastas, fish dishes and grilled meats with menus starting at around Fr.22. Engiadina, on Plazza da Scuola 10 in the middle of Dorf (081/833 32 65; closed Sun), is another popular place, this time concentrating on fondue – pay about Fr.26 for the ordinary version, or considerably more for the house special with extra champagne. The famous Chesa Veglia, Via Veglia 2 in the middle of Dorf (081/837 28 00), is one of St Moritz’s swankier restaurants, with three separate dining areas, all of them exclusive, expensive and cloying. If you’re looking for a meal to remember, spurn the array of top-end restaurants in town and reserve well ahead for the Marmite at the top station of the Corviglia funicular (081/833 63 55) – if caviar and truffles at 2500m are to your liking, that is.

St Moritz has a plethora of exclusive bars, discos, nightclubs and drinking dens – most of which are either for members only, shielded by sky-high entry fees, or simply dull and expensive. Cut your losses and have a pint at Bobby’s Pub, Via dal Bagn 52, instead.
