Adjani, Isabelle (1955 - ) France / Movie star / GE
Adjani

This Frenchactress settled in Geneva in 1996 to raise her two children. Born Isabelle Adjanian in Paris on June 27, 1955, she concentrated on her studies before delving into acting. She joined the Comédie Française in 1973 and played a role in Molière's l'Ecole des Femmes (The School for Wives).

Adjani also appeared in films, notably La Gifle (The Slap), in which she costarred with Lino Ventura and became known to the publics. She won a number of awards for L'Histoire d'Adèle H. (The Story of Adele H.) by François Truffaut, but her most famous films are L'Eté meurtrier (One Deadly Summer) by Jean Becker and Subway by Luc Besson, which also won her several awards. In 1994, she received her fourth Oscar for La Reine Margot (Queen Margot).

Tired of being harassed by fans and the media in Paris, she moved to Geneva in 1996. Upon her arrival, she declared, "When you have the opportunity to give your children a better quality of life, you mustn't hesitate." Her new residence allows her to visit with her eldest son, who vacations every year in the Crans-sur-Sienne ski resort, one hour from Geneva.

Isabelle Adjani also has family in Lausanne and in Zurich. "Coming to Geneva was done with family togetherness in mind," she said. The actress has not totally given up Paris life, however. She travels regularly to the French capital, which is only an hour's flight from Geneva.
