The English actress lived for over 30 years in Switzerland, in the canton of Vaud. Audrey Hepburn was born in Brussels in 1929. Her father was an English banker and her mother a Dutch baroness. After her parents' divorce, she lived in Arnhem, in the Netherlands, which was under German occupation.

After the liberation, she left to study at a dance school in London. She played in her first film in 1948, and decided to try her luck in the United States in 1951. She landed an Oscar-winning role in 1953 for Roman Holiday. Her career was set. She played the leading roles in War and Peace in 1956 and My Fair Lady in 1964.

Audrey Hepburn lived with her first husband in Bürgenstock, near Lucerne. After her divorce in 1963, she moved to Tolochenaz on the shores of Lake Geneva. In 1969, she and Italian psychiatrist, Paolo Dotti, married in Morges. The couple settled into the actress' villa, La Paisible, on 16,000 sq.m of grounds overlooking Lake Geneva.

Audrey Hepburn still acted in a few films, such as Always in 1989. She worked as an ambassador for UNICEF and held this position until her death in 1993, in her home in Tolochenaz. Today you can visit a pavilion in her memory.
